Ten Million want a fair, ambitious and legally binding deal!
This was a simple yet the most sensational action that happened on the first day of COP15.This was an action was organized by the tck tck tck campaign. This action was done to show that 1 billion people had signed for a fair ambitious and legally binding treaty.
The action had simple carton boxes which said “Ten million people want a fair, ambitious and legally binding deal!” had already signed and each box had one word on it. We found out that there were that number of people who signed the petition had already crossed 1 billion.
I myself was really lucky to be a part of this action as I got to know about it a few days back and it was rather spontaneous that I got to hold one of the boxes and only 16 people were allowed to do the action. I was the person who got the word “binding” that made me feel like I was very important, as we truly need a binding deal.
Anyways, once we had practiced the action, which was very simple- just holding these blocks in the right order. But the venue (media room) and the timing of the event gave it all the hype it required. So, after a long wait in front of the media room as the plenary was running late we finally got into the media room to give deliver a candle in to the UNFCCC Secretary Yvo De Boer which we asked him to light in the plenary every day so that everyone could see that time is running out. The best part of the action according to me was the number of photos that were taken, as soon as we entered the room till we left we had so many people from the media take pictures of us that I was blind for two minutes. This made me think about the Actors from our movies and how they must be feeling when pictures of them were taken.
After a picture with the Secretary and a heart touching action by a girl from the kiwi islands about how they will be effected and how they hope that the leaders would come for a fair, ambitious and legally binding treaty from the COP15.
